Texas law has allowed the use of firearms suppressors for the taking of non-game animals such as feral hogs and varmints. However, on March 29, 2012, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission unanimously voted to expand the lawful use of firearms suppressors to include alligators, game animals and game birds with any legal firearm. The commission recognized the many benefits of suppressors, including reduced noise complaints and increased hunting efficiency. It remains unlawful to hunt game animals, birds and alligators with a machine gun in Texas.
