US Army Marksmanship Unit Sweeps M3GI Competition

(Wilsonville, OR)
– Crimson Trace’s 2014 Midnight 3-Gun Invitational (M3GI) is now history, and that recorded shooting sports winner’s history chapter includes the names of three members of the US Army Marksmanship Unit. SSG Daniel Horner, Sgt. Matt Sweeney, and SSG Joel Turner of Fort Benning, Georgia recently traveled to central Oregon and took their best shots at the event’s prestigious top spot—and a $10,000 Grand Prize.

The 2014 M3GI winner was noted as SSG Daniel Horner. This was his third win of the prestigious event. Joining him on the winner’s podium were second place winner Sgt. Matt Sweeney and fourth place winner Joel Turner. Horner pocketed a $10,000 Grand Prize check having done so with Crimson Trace lasers and lights on his firearms. The competitors shot their way through 10 diverse stages in the deep desert darkness with the use of pistols, rifles and shotguns. Winning scores were based on speed and accuracy.

The group was accompanied by Lt. Col. Bret Tecklenburg, the US Army Marksmanship Unit Commander.

More than 200 competitors entered the M3GI. The competition’s High Lady winner was Lena Miculek, who is sponsored Smith & Wesson. Nearly 20 female shooters competed in this year’s event. That group included Olympic athletes Tracy and Lanny Barnes.
